20th Anniversary FREE Open House

It's hard to believe, but 2003 marks the 20th anniversary of this Company's founding. With the amazing growth of the Company, we truly have cause to celebrate. And we plan to do just that. We're throwing a party - a HUGE party - in the form of a FREE open house on Saturday and Sunday September 13th and 14th from 10am to 4pm each day. We will open our beautiful property here at Port Clinton to the general public. The event will be held rain or shine.

Since our railroad is committed to environmental conservation, the open house will have a dual theme featuring both rail and environment-related events and displays.

At present, the following events and tours are planned:

  • Corporate center tour
  • Locomotive repair shop tour
  • Diesel, steam and rolling stock displays
  • Maintenance of Way and Rail Vehicle displays
  • Model railroad displays
  • Pump hand car rides
  • Live steam model display
  • Blacksmithing demo
  • Railroad tie spiking demo
  • Other events still being planned

In support of the environment, you can visit:

  • Blue Mountain Wildlife, Inc.
  • Red Creek Wildlife
  • Schuylkill Trout Unlimited
  • Other conservation groups

There will also be roving musicians, a multimedia slide presentation, and other surprises.

The Borough of Port Clinton will also be participating in the Open House festivities.

  • The Port Clinton Transportation Museum will be open each day from 12 until 4pm.
  • The Northern Berks-Southern Schuylkill Historical Association in conjunction with the Port Clinton Fire Co. will hold a ham dinner Saturday only from 2 to 6pm.
  • The Port Clinton Peanut Shop will be open both days from 8am to 8pm.
  • The Port Clinton Playground Assoc. will operate a refreshment stand both days 10am to 4pm.

Most area businesses will have extended hours during both days and there will be narrated bus and walking tours of the historic town.

Stop by these businesses during your visit, all within easy walking distance from the railroad events:

  • Appalachian Outfitters
  • Schuylkill Gateway Antiques and Collectibles
  • 3C's Restaurant
  • Port Clinton Hotel & Restaurant
  • Union House Bed & Breakfast
  • Hubler's Business Machines
  • Hermy's Cycle Shop

Many events are still being planned, so mark your calendar now and bring along the entire family for this FREE Open House.

Events, displays, and times are subject to change.

ALTERNATE PARKING PORT CLINTON-HAMBURG AREA:
Alternate parking, including FREE shuttle bus service, will operate every 30 minutes from the Hamburg Area School District parking lots (see map below). The lots are located just off PA 61 on Windsor Street. 2 buses will operate on a continuous loop every 30 minutes from 9 am to 6 pm each day. See the enclosed MAP. This alternative is highly recommended due the very limited amount of parking in Port Clinton Borough. Reading and Northern personnel will be at the parking lots to answer your questions and assist you with boarding off and on the shuttle buses.

Additionally, you may encounter DELAYS at the I-78/PA61 interchange due the traffic pattern changes in place as a result of the planned mid- October grand opening of the Cabela sporting goods mega store. Delays, if any, are expected to be minor.

All traffic EXITING Port Clinton Borough will be DIRECTED SOUTH on PA61. This is for traffic safety. You can turn around for PA61 North at the Industrial Drive traffic light which is about 1 mile south of Port Clinton on PA61 south.
